Stan earned All-American long jump honors at Kansas University, when he finished second at the 1969 NCAA Championship. He competed at the Relays for 15 years, and won the long jump title in 1973 with a leap of 26-5 1/2.

Stan demonstrated incredible consistency and durability throughout his career, as he jumped over 25 feet for 17 consecutive years. His durability has continued through a successful masters career, in which he has established several world and U.S. national sprint records.
