Lance Harter moved to the University of Arkansas in 1990 after 11 years of building the nations' top Division II program at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Since his arrival in Fayetteville, the Lady Razorbacks have been a dominant force in the Southeastern Conference. Coach Harter has won 13 league titles and in the season 1999-2000, he became just the second women's coach in the SEC to sweep cross country along with indoor and outdoor track and field. Moreover, Lance was named the National Coach of the Year in indoor track in 2000 and 2001 and also for outdoor track in the year 2000. His teams have one 10 SEC cross country titles and 11 NCAA regional titles. He has coached an astounding 80 All Americans in cross country and 282 in track and field.

Lance graduated from Texas Tech in 1972 and earned a Master's degree from Colorado State in 1974 in education, focusing on the physiology of excercise.

Lance Harter has been one of the real special people at Mt. SAC. Beginning back in 1980, he started bringing teams to the Relays. His Cal Poly teams competed here during the 80's and performed extremely well. He continued to be quite loyal to the Relays when he moved on to Arkansas and has not missed the meet during his tenure in Fayetteville. He has pointed out on several occasions that the Mt. SAC Relays are very important for his team. His athletes enjoy competing at Mt. SAC and they will continue to shine each year. He is truly a great addition to the Coaches Hall of Fame.
